Cheese and Crackers Snack

It’s fun to have easy little snacks that you can make even if they are only slightly different from the norm. Of course, everyone has enjoyed a yummy cheese and crackers snack, but this simple “recipe” takes it up one more step. By turning the cheese into a dip, you still have a portable snack that is easy to enjoy.

My only requirements for snacks is that they are either easy to make and/or they are frugal. I posted many of my frugal snack recipes in this blog post about Snack Ideas for Under $1 and also in Easy Snacks for Busy Moms. Both blog posts have some great ideas. I think you will like this one too though, let’s get started!

First, you have to start with the crackers though!

Homemade Saltine Crackers

If you are looking to make homemade crackers (which I highly recommend!), I have several recipes on the blog that you can check out. Each of these recipes can easily be altered to add different or more flavors. Of course, if you don’t have time to make homemade crackers and it will make your life simpler by finding something at the store, by all means, do it! 🙂

Now since you decided you’d rather get all fancy and make a Cheese Spread instead of just plain old cheese slices you can whip up this mixture in a jiffy!

Ridiculously Easy Homemade Cheese Spread

Ingredients

  • 1 part cheddar cheese
  • 1 part cream cheese

Instructions

  1. So if you use 8 ounces of cream cheese you will also need a cup of shredded cheddar cheese.
  2. Pulse together in a food processor until creamed together. Depending on the sharpness of your cheddar you may need to add a little salt. (I use white sharp cheddar and do not add any salt.)

  3. For fun you could add spices or herbs to make different flavors!

Now, of course, you can add in all kinds of different things to this cheese spread to give it different flavors. Here are some fun things to try:

  • Chili Powder
  • Green Onions
  • Fresh Minced Garlic
  • Chives
  • Crumbled Bacon

And that’s all there is to it! It’s just so easy to make your own snacks. Of course, you can always go with the classic crackers and cheese but making it into a dip is just so much more fun!

Here are some other yummy cheese dips that you might enjoy making:
